Leonard Fournette is in a Bulking Phase
Playoff Lenny has always been known to be a bit of a bruiser, but he might've taken it to the next level with his carb intake. Reports out of camp are that Fournette has ballooned all the way up to 260 pounds, up from 228 last season. Fournette may or may not have adhered to the TB12 method in his time off, and he appears to be quite the beef-lord.
Listen, don't worry about Leonard Fournette. This is a world-class athlete and it appears that none of you have withstood a bulking phase. Bodybuilders do it all the time. For all you newcomers: Next comes the cutting phase, that's when six packs come out to play and you become ripped (or so I hear). Please stop with the Bready Eddie Lacy comparisons. I know it's the offseason and there's nothing going on so we as journalists conjure stories for the sake of having something to talk about. Let's wait a few weeks and see if that jersey fits him a little better before we starting throwing stones.
Besides, Fournette's never exactly been a "small" running back by today's standards. In fact, at the 2017 Combine he came in five pounds over his regular season weight at 240 pounds (and still ran a 4.51s forty yard dash). The Jaguars squandered some good years of his NFL lifespan and he signed a one-year deal with the Bucs in 2020 after putting up Kamara-like numbers in 2019 (1674 scrimmage yards). He signed on for another year in 2021, then in 2022 they awarded him with a 3 year $21 million deal. Talk about your all-time bargains, the Bucs basically used him on a trial basis for two years after the Jags mismanaged their entire franchise and hired Urban Meyer. Jags fans probably wish they hadn't given up on Fournette (and Jalen Ramsey, and maybe Calais Campbell), but they're currently licking the wounds that Meyer inflicted before getting exiled, so there are bigger fish to fry in Duval County.
