Dear Russell Wilson: I Want a Refund
If you’re a loyal reader (as I know many of you are), then you know my stance heading into this NFL season regarding the Denver Broncos. Myself, and many other esteemed fantasy football experts, predicted a big upgrade for the Denver Broncos offense with the addition of what we were made to believe is a franchise quarterback. I even took it a step further with my affinity for Albert O as a breakout candidate being well documented. This bold (credit to me) prediction was almost solely dependent on Russell Wilson coming in and taking the offense to the next level.
I’m here to tell you I was wrong, and we’ve been bamboozled.
By the man above.
More importantly, the Broncos have been bamboozled. This isn’t what they paid for. The “Russell Wilson Boost” that many foresaw heading into this season has been a farce, and the second-highest paid signal-caller in the NFL has been a gross disappointment. He’s been braindead and immobile in the pocket, zero vision, looked unprepared, and the offense efficiency is ranking among the worst in the league across the board trending toward historically bad levels. Underwhelming doesn't do it justice. Watching Jerry Jeudy and Melvin Gordon visibly flustered on the sideline Monday night was telling. Whether it's a new head coach calling plays in a new system, or "Mr. Unlimited" actually being quite limited, or even complacency since he got a fat paycheck, Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense is a dumpster fire. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks offense is moving right along under Geno Smith as it seems they're happy to be free of Russell's weirdo tendencies and offputting behavior (he doesn't give his phone number to teammates, they have to contact him through his manager). More recently, Russell Wilson was announced to have been "playing through an injury" which is a roundabout way of saying he has been sweet stinky garbage and covering for him.
Either way, I'm here to face the music and I regret to inform you, Albert O has officially been leapfrogged on the depth chart by rookie Greg Dulcich as of Monday night. Dulcich had a big debut and seems like he's their guy moving forward. Again, I had Albert O as a big breakout candidate since Noah Fant departed for Seattle and I was all but certain he would be a top-10 TE when it was all said and done, but this has turned out to be a big fat swing and miss. In all fairness, I did preface that by saying I wanted all the credit and none of the blame, so it’s not a big deal. It's actually more of a testament to my accountability that I'm able to acknowledge this miss than it is a knock to my football acumen.
