Jeff Goodman Is A Loser

I've been at war with the national media for almost 7 years. It's not a big deal, but I've been fighting the good fight ever since "Schiano Sunday" in late 2017 when my eyes were opened to the shit that happens when media members "befriend" coaches and athletic directors. It's a dangerous game and there's a lot of behind-the-scenes maneuvering to make sure stories break the way that people want them to.

Whenever you're reading anything that's written by these select few, just know that they're very sensitive, fragile individuals. Jeff Goodman, Pat Forde, Dan Wolken, Dennis Dodd... they're all hyper-sensitive and soft. If a coach/AD is friendly and makes these dorks feel important, then they generally act nicer and will even volunteer to carry their water. If a coach/AD is mean to them in a presser or ignores calls and doesn't scratch their belly, then they tend to become very fussy and resort to hit pieces. This is the way things work, especially in the ecosystem of college hoops.

I've written about this before but far too often nowadays, national college sports "pundits" stoop to pathetic levels to get their engagement and clicks. They shitpost and they troll people, plain and simple. This is the primary method with which they remain even kind of relevant and it usually takes inflammatory, antagonistic opinions to get a rise out of fans that will go to war online. Other fanbases are finally waking up and joining our growing faction to topple the college sports oligarchy, one by one. More and more people are recognizing that a lot of these national media writers are complete losers and it's best to ignore what they have to say 99% of the time.

Providence is the latest to join our party as of today.

A DePaul fan on Twitter/X made a documentary called "Divine Providence" about Providence hoops, their history, and a good bit about Ed Cooley leaving Providence for their rival, Georgetown. Cooley got there in 2011, he got them back on the map atop the Big East, then he bolted for a bitter rival within the conference, which had never happened before. So this guy conducted interviews to paint a picture of the true essence of it all - the rumors, the chaos, the reality, the fallout. He reached out to lifelong fans, alumni, even John Fanta, a national college basketball figure that actually doesn't suck. I mean, it was a huge deal when Cooley left, so this was a great topic for a documentary even if he was just making it for fun on the side. As such, this anonymous Twitter/X person started a project called "Big East Films" and this was the first video of several involving Big East basketball. It just so happened to also cover the events that led to Ed Cooley's exit from Providence, Rhode Island.

Enter Jeff Goodman: Self-appointed college basketball gatekeeper, expert, and personal guardian of Ed Cooley's honor?
I'm really not sure why Jeff Goodman is so miffed with this. I'm just gonna throw a guess out there but it was probably about the inclusion of speculation on Ed Cooley's marital status and the rumors that swirled there about an affair being the reason for his departure. So why does Jeff Goodman care about that? It's not like this stuff isn't out there publicly for anyone to see anyway. Why does a spoiled member of the national media feel the need to police this? If he's friends with Ed Cooley, it kinda starts to make sense. The little yappy attack dog Jeff Goodman attacked this guy online and made some hilarious, empty threats.
Some other guy named Rob Dauster (founder of The Field of 68, a college basketball entity dumb enough to employ Jeff Goodman) also threatened legal action, which seems weird because there doesn't appear to be anything illegal actually happening. I'm legitimately confused as to why they care so much. From what I've gathered the worst thing that could happen is that it'd be scrubbed from the internet because these giant babies feel the need to defend Ed Cooley, maybe? That's all I can figure.

What's funnier about all this is that John Fanta, one of Jeff Goodman's coworkers, is interviewed in the film and gives great insight on the entire situation. I'm sure if shit hits the fan then Fanta will say he didn't know how it was all being presented or whatever, but it's also very possible that Jeff Goodman is upset that he didn't get an interview request and feels left out. To give extensive interviews like that and spend so much time talking about it is to almost definitely understand that they'll be used for some sort of media production, so I'm not sure where John Fanta goes from here but I hope it's far away from anything having to do with Jeff Goodman.

This all screams "Ed Cooley answers my texts so we're definitely friends so I have to be his mouthpiece and defend him against the angry mob". Jeff Goodman doesn't realize he's making himself look like an even bigger asshole than he has before by blindly fighting Ed Cooley's battles, especially since Ed Cooley probably doesn't even know who he is. Either way, he looks like the biggest loser of all time.

Goodman is notorious for trying a little too hard and putting on to like he's a hard-ass and not a national media pipsqueak that does whatever he's told. This ordeal is no different and Ed Cooley probably wanted his rotten soldiers to kill this documentary because he didn't like the unsavory parts included. I legitimately have no idea why the Field of 68 would be threatening to sue. Whatever the case, Goodman's feeble attempts at intimidation were made public and it's a horrible look. As is the case with his cronies in the media, he believes himself to be far superior to everyone else, so he tried to scare this guy since he's credentialed.

You know Goodman is in Cooley's back pocket because he even logged on to defend Cooley's decision back in March with one of the biggest douchebag lines of all time, "stay in your lane".

Moral of the story is if you're in college athletics and you're gonna do something to piss off a bunch of fans, it's always smart to have friends in the media to justify your (shitty) decisions.
