Russell Wilson’s Foundation Might Be A Racket
Well well, looks like Mr. Unlimited and his constituents were getting fat with wealth thanks to his “charitable” foundation. The foundation may have been paying execs and family office workers unnecessarily large salaries considering their expenses, according to the USA Today report. Was Russ skimming off the top to pay for all the bathrooms at his mansion? Putting a big chunk of that donated money toward hair product and stylists so he can look like fly as hell on the red carpet standing next to Ciara?
The recent investigation showed that Russell Wilson and Ciara's Why Not You Foundation only gave 24.3% of the donated money to charity. I'm no expert on the matter, but after a tiny sliver of research I can say it should be... more than that. Good on them for donating $13 million since 2014, but they're being rightfully criticized on how the rest of that money was being handled. I get it, people gotta live, but what's being reported seems like a bit much. The foundation responded and said their model is "built on third parties to raise money" which was declared by an expert to be "marketing fluff" to justify mishandling funds. For reference, American Red Cross gives 90 cents of every dollar and uses the other 10 cents to keep the lights on. The Why Not You Foundation spent around $600,000 on charitable stuff in 2020 and 2021. In that same timeframe, they allocated $1.1 million for employee salaries and benefits. Having personal and management expenses double the amount your foundation donates seems problematic from the outside.
The IRS would agree with that statement and may get involved due to "questions about excess benefit transactions, private inurement and the organizations 'free-for-all' governance structure". Translation: Your well-intended donations that you thought were going to those in need? They may or may not be used as Russell Wilson and Ciara's own personal piggy bank. Keeping 3/4 of the money donated is a black eye for all the other charitable foundations out there doing great things.
It’s been a weird year for Russ. He got rockstar money in Denver then people realized he's kind of a colossal dork. Oh, and the on-field product was certified ass. The Broncos offense under Wilson was beyond unwatchable and their offense was one of the actual, statistical worst in the league. He set a career low with just 16 TD passes and a career high for being sacked 55 times. The Broncos gave him more than $48 million a year and he had fans questioning everything with the "Broncos Country, let's ride" debacle before the season even started. They canned their head coach halfway through the year so that could've played a role, but Russ was paid the big bucks and delivered a fat turd, plain and simple.
Off the field, the Subway commercial only really served to make him look like a creep show serial killer that keeps body parts in his basement. Like the guy that walks up out of nowhere, smells you and says "I bet you taste good." He also caught some heat for not giving out his phone number to teammates and making them go through his publicist to talk to him. He allegedly had his own office in the facility, which is just flat out odd. It was recently revealed that he kept his own personal QB coach on the premises secondary to the QB coach employed by the team. Again, bizarre behavior all around. The term "diva" has been thrown around by some and Sean Payton may have his work cut out for him dealing with this guy and trying to win football games.
Some good did come out of Russell Wilson's abysmal 2022 season. I enjoyed following this kid's TikTok that started in Week 1 and tracked how long it'd take for Russ to throw as many TD's as there were bathrooms (12) in his house. It was hilarious and took entirely way too long to actually happen. He finally eclipsed that number in Week 16!!!
