Tom Brady released a brief but emotional retirement video this morning and he says he's finally hanging it up.
Yeah okay Tom, we've seen this song and dance before. Until the NFL regular season starts next year my brain won't officially rule him out as a week 1 starter.
Don't be surprised if Mark Davis rolls out the white velvet carpet for Brady, takes him to a fancy dinner in his van and they get bowl cuts together as he woos him to the Raiders for 2023. Maybe Russ Wilson officially craps out in Denver and Sean Payton picks up the phone, you think Brady's saying no to that? What if his old buddy Bill gets tired of Mac Jones and begs him to come back, bribing him with sweaty massages and cut-off hoodies? All I'm saying is I'm skeptical.
In all seriousness, while this all might feel oddly familiar since he said the same thing last year then came back for more, this one feels like the real deal. He released a quick video announcing his re-retirement from somewhere on the beach. Props to him for some self-awareness after last year to just come right out and say it but we've been burnt before - whether or not he stays retired remains to be seen.
"Good morning, guys, I’ll get to the point right away: I’m retiring for good,” Brady said. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first. So I won’t be long-winded. I think you only get one super emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year. So, really, thank you guys, so much, to every single one of you, for supporting me. My family, my friends, teammates, my competitors, I could go on forever, there’s too many. Thank you, guys, for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all."
Tom Brady puts a pin in the unequivocal best career ever for an NFL quarterback. Most wins, passes, completions, yards, and TDs in NFL history - regular and postseason. These are records that likely won't get broken for a long, long time if ever. He was a male model with a quarterback's brain and arm, a rare combo that just so happened to be a postseason wrecking ball that made everyone around him better and won time and time again with all the pressure on his shoulders. A well-deserved retirement for Touchdown Tom, and I hope he spends valuable some time on the beach with his family and has exotic fruit fed to him by butlers and dates lady singers or whatever rich, hot guys do in their twilight years.
It's a safe bet to assume he'll go into some sort of a role with a broadcast team, maybe the Fox NFL Sunday crew to reunite with his big beefy brother, Gronk. Whatever he does next, best of luck to ya Tom, hope you catch a break and enjoy this new chapter of your life!
