Power Slap Is Real And It’s Spectacular

Folks.

It’s called Power Slap and it’s a thing that exists. For anyone that’s not in the loop or just discovering this, like myself, here’s the shakedown:

Who?: People who can give & receive powerful slaps. For example.

Here’s the current heavyweight champion, a man that goes by “Wolverine”.
His real name is Ron Bata and he lives in Arkansas. Interestingly enough, his UFC profile has his Octagon debut as May 30, 2023. Maybe he’s using Power Slap as a way to transition into his first love: cage-fighting.

Anyways, first impressions go a long way - this guy looks mean as shit and more importantly, his league-issued Monster Energy sweatpants are tucked into his boots. This is an automatic “DO NOT FUCK WITH” if seen in public. My best guess is this guy was already fighting people at bars, hustling slapfights and breaking beer bottles over peoples’ heads, so it only made sense to take it professional.

What?: An actual real-life league where you powerfully slap and are powerfully slapped in return.
Where?: In the face, sometimes the neck/jaw.
When?: TBD - It streamed for free on a thing called “Rumble”, and TBS didn't renew it for a second season. I have zero doubts that Dana White will find a new home for Season 2 of Power Slap.
Why?: Who the hell knows?

Here’s what it looks like for all you visual learners out there:
Similar to UFC, there are qualifier matches, press conferences, weigh-ins, rivalries, referees, fouls, and plenty of drama. The guy in the video above slapped his opponent, knocked him out, then was called for a foul for “stepping”. As it turns out you can’t take a crow hop and perform the slap, that’s not allowed. That makes the slap too powerful and dangerous. As if taking a repeated slaps to the facial region is safe.

There's no real art to this other than being able to take a blow to the head and not get knocked out. Here's some guys talking about how little they do to prepare for these matches: Dana White just pumps out winners and he’s back at it with his newest organization revolving around sheer violence. This time it’s just… two people standing at a table slapping each other in the face as hard as they can. Simple and beautiful, just human beings doing a little slappin’. There’s already UFC, which is just two people trying to beat the living shit out of each other and bleeding all over the place, so it makes sense that it’s in the same vein. It’s inconceivable that anyone would actually agree to do this, but flash a few thousand dollars and these folks would probably do worse.

Related to Power Slap's rules system: I don’t wanna stir the pot and bring integrity into question but a thick beard seems like slap padding. Some guys got a built-in shock-absorption system, not even taking slaps to the actual face. To me, this is an unfair advantage. Regulate beard length!

Either way, Dana White does it again with Power Slap, folks! Whether or not they have a TV deal for Season 2 is up in the air, but if there's one thing that Dana White is good at, it's promoting stuff. Power Slap is pure, simple brutality but he’s a good marketer and people will watch because people will always like watching violence.
